Exchange Art Exhibition VietNam Indonesia, HCMC Art Association – VN

August 7 – August 13, 2023

An art exchange exhibition between Vietnam and Indonesia will be collaboratively organized by artists from both countries in August 2023. The exhibition, held at the Fine Arts Association Gallery, 218A Pasteur, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, represents the friendship, exchange, and mutual learning between Vietnamese and Indonesian artists.
Shared Artistic Heritage
Vietnam and Indonesia, both part of Southeast Asia, share a strong foundation in modern and contemporary Eastern art. This joint exhibition serves as the beginning of deeper relationships and aims to foster the development of contemporary art, contributing to its enduring presence.
Vietnam boasts traditional art forms such as silk painting, lacquer painting, and oil painting, often exploring themes like landscapes and communal activities. Similarly, Indonesia is renowned for traditional arts passed down through generations, including Batik, primitive sculptures, puppetry, and more. These cultural similarities and distinctions have shaped the evolution of modern art in both countries.
Contemporary Art in a Global Context
Vietnamese and Indonesian contemporary art share a common discourse on global issues. Both nations’ artists have easy access to the internet and media, enabling them to address universal concerns like global warming, peacekeeping, technological progress, and scientific development. These issues often serve as inspiration for their contemporary artworks.
Exhibition Highlights
The Vietnam-Indonesia Art Exchange Exhibition will feature over 60 works by 17 Vietnamese and 11 Indonesian artists. This event is expected to be well-received in both countries and aims to enhance the development of fine arts in Vietnam and Indonesia.
Through direct artistic and cultural interaction, this exhibition provides valuable insights into the art scenes of both nations, fostering learning and exchange. This interaction is crucial for future cooperation and artistic exchanges.
Closing Remarks
The exhibition promises to be an enjoyable event and a stepping stone for sustained collaboration in the years to come. Best wishes for its success and continuity!
VIETNAM INDONESIA
A joint exhibition of art from two countries will be held in August 2023 between Vietnamese and Indonesian artists. The exhibition that we held at Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Association 218 A Pasteur Street, District 3, HCMC is a manifest of our friendship between the two countries that presented by several artists in this event.
Vietnam and Indonesia, which are located on Asia, They both are the same region as the growth of modern and contemporary art from the east. This joint exhibition is a beginning of further relationship, it is hoped will thrive later to build an existence of fine arts concurrently.
Indonesia and Vietnam have independence days in close proximity, Indonesia's independence day on August 17, 1945 and Vietnam's independence day on September 2, 1945 . We both have the same fate as a former colony of European.
Ho Chi Minh is a name ofhistorical and important figure of the Vietnamese independence movement and then became a name of the city where the joint exhibition will be held. Soekarno was also one of the important figures of Indonesian independence who also really loved fine arts that indicated with a large collection of paintings at the state palace at that time. Indonesia is a country that has a fairly strong growth of traditional arts and culture, as well as Vietnam. This is what makes the development of modern art between the two countries have some similarities as well as differences. Vietnam has a tradition of painting on silk with various themes such as beautiful landscapes, traditional community activities, etc. since the XV century. Indonesia has traditional arts left by their ancestors such as batik, primitive statues, puppet and many others. From this traditional art which then influenced the style and concept of the works of modern Indonesian artists. However in contemporary art, in my opinion, Vietnam and Indonesia have the same discourse on global issues that are easily accessible from the internet and other media. Issues about global warming, issues about peace from conflict and war, issues about technological advances, issues about scientific developments, etc. All of them became sourch of ideas that were expressed in the work of contemporary art.
The joint exhibition that presenting the works of 11Indonesian artists and 17 Vietnamese artists has the expectance in giving mutual appreciation from the two countries and hopefully the fine arts in Vietnam and Indonesia will keep growing. The direct interaction of art and culture from the artists from both countries hopefully will provide information and mutual appreciation which is important as a form of discourse that continues to develop for the two countries. Happy exhibiting, good luck and continue in the following year.
